Musing on Salvation and Sin
Penned by an Irish hermit
I.
Often, I wonder if sin be not this:
Faceted cracks marring an amethyst.
Yet golden light transfigures every flaw
Forming awe greater for despair’s abyss.
II.
Was this not from the first, great God’s intent:
That Man would straightway make the straight ways bent,
Showing through his disorder: one true law
Beyond him, save if he to Truth assent?
III.
The Fathers wrote and wisely wrote they thus:
Had Eve and Adam found humble success
Rejecting satan’s strewth as sotten straw
They’dve gained apple and glory just as us.
IV.
The root of sin rests in Man’s wounded will
Where rests the mind, thence does corruption spill
Through soul and body seeking being to yaw
Crosswise the fertile furrows God doth till.
