To Mankind
An Envoi
Them from the filthy cities— Where eyeless idols grin, Them from the blasted desert, Waste of Mohommed's jinn, Them from the blackest jungle Where yelping drums yet plod. They are bent, beat, and broken Before the Ruler's rod, They bear beneath the token, Marking the reign of God We of the airy towers, Of sea and open sky, Of plains, mountains, and forests, Orchards and fruited rye, We who tilled the garden— The world, Eden at last, In all built for tomorrow, Forget the hoary past, Renounce the Lord, tell sorrow Return to our behast. So flee Vanity's fairies, And fly from Pride's domain, Denounce the Devil's servants, Renew the Master's reign, Turn, soften, your heart hardened, Let ice and crystal break, Our pardon, God has written, Our sword given, retake, The land Hell has frostbitten. Pick up your cross and wake.
