Whimsy
When crayfish whistle on the mountain, Red snow falls from the sky Man walks around with a hairy hand The pigs have learnt to fly… The sun is rising in the west, The moon has turnt to cheese, A Wand’ring Knight still on his quest And still the seven seas. There’s thunder in the clear, blue sky. The Giants walk again, The Dragon of the Empty Soul Is chased upon the lane. There’s laughter coming from the stars New wonder from the Earth The Demon of the Prison Bars Has fled before God’s mirth The knights arise, to ride again, Man’s gods lie dead and cold. No more the chains, let freedom ring, No more the chains of gold. There’s deeds again and wars to win, There’s dark again and light. No more the din and empty sin And Science’s grey might. ... The world’s gone topsy-turvy But all things are alright, For gleaming in the evéning There is the morning light.
Written in inspiration born of GK Chesterton’s poems.
